August 20 and 21, 2010

Naomi Sherer and son Tim met at the White River Camp for two days in the A circle.

The entrance to Mount Rainier National Park.

The mountain was beautifully visible when we arrived. From then on the top was shrouded in a cloud of its own.

A very impressive mountain. This is as close as we could get.

Landmarks like this will be posted through Facebook. I show off whenever I have the opportunity.

At Sunrise lodge I found a distinctive thimble for my collection and a panoramic jigsaw puzzle I thought more appropriate for me than an ordinary postcard photo.

We hiked about three miles toward a glacier through the park on a trail that was easy walking - most of the time. Lots of bridges over the snowmelt rushing downhill.

A thistle by any other name would still be a prickly thistle.

The White River was really white, not milky like other "white rivers" I've seen with that name.

Fire is fascinating and somebody has to keep the wood chunks aligned correctly so they would keep burning.

Tim put up his tent close to the path toward the water fountain and restrooms.
(Note: I am 82, going on 83. and I like to be comfortable.)

Wood burned red hot and warm I stayed up until dark to watch the flames.

Go camping. Sleep on the ground. I recommend it. The White River campsites were clean and well spaced apart.

In spite of the fast rushing cold water, moss clung to the rocks along the small tributaries.

And flowers I could not identify bloomed in profusion.
