MUCH TO DO O'ER NOTHING

So congress spent the day listening to CBS justify or apologize for Janet Jackson's breast being exposed on nationwide television. What a lead for tonight's news!! As if there wasn't another car bombing in Iraq. As if there wasn't a stately discussion about same sex marriages. As if there weren't political candidates making their way toward the presidency.

Now I understand that males are fascinated with women's breasts. And maybe the reporters appreciate the idea and find it titillating as lawmakers sit and fantasize about breasts instead of hammering out a national budget and the other important things we send them to congress to do.

What I don't understand is why there is such an outcry at seeing an exposed breast. Half of the world's population have breasts which are summarily seen by the other half. That other half of the world's population has nuzzled or wanted to nuzzle a woman's breast. Many of those were fortunate to have been nourished by a woman's breast.

I'm not certain what will result from the testimony of CBS head honchos, nor the indigence of the ones who brought it before congress, but it will not change our lives the way congress does by ignoring our country's real issues. But this isn't the first time lawmakers have neglected the economy, ignored world harmony, and trampled on our civil rights to focus instead on women's bodies.
