Today, January 7, is the birthday of Janice Wylie Karjalahti. She is 83, just months before I reach the same. Janice is my niece, daughter of Arvilla, Ron’s oldest sibling, and Roland Wylie. She was the niece he favored among the five girls in the Sherer’s relationship. She lived in Sartell with Wally Karjalahti in a house next door to Arvilla that Wally built while he worked on his BA degree at St Cloud State College. Janice and Wally went to St Paul where they taught school, Janice with the fourth grade and Wally in high school shop, for a number of years. He developed Lou Gehrig’s disease and after his death Janice continued teaching. They had two boys, Rollie and Ricky who still live in the Twin Cities. Ricky has two daughters who live close to Janice and she is in constant contact with them. Janice had a bout with cancer which she overcame although it keeps recurring, a challenge she continues to face. She is listed in Google as still at 1745 Crystal Ave, Arden Hills, St Paul, MN 55112 where I will send my annual report to her this week. |
