More of the same today. Again Tinsley tries to distract attention away from wide-spread and concerted efforts to unseat President Clinton. This particular cartoon has Hillary worried about seeing Sam Donaldson and George Will together on a Sunday morning news program. Tinsley has the First Lady accusing Mr. Donaldson of being "co-opted" into the "right-wing conspiracy.
What Bruce Tinsley probably didn't know was that on Monday (3/9/1998) Esquire magazine leaked an apology from former American Spectator reporter David Brock to President Clinton. Mr. Brock apologized for writing a story that was not based upon facts (just heresay from various Clinton-haters). The story of "Trooper-gate" was effectively commissioned by a major GOPAC contributor who Brock refused to name. (You remember GOPAC don't you? It's Newt Gingrich's political action committee.)
Brock claims that he "never shared the visceral hatred" of the people who put him up to this story. However, he confesses that he regarded any Democratic President as an "Ideological Threat." Talk about irrational! He wasn't upset about anything in particular, let alone any actual wrong-doing. Mr. Brock didn't care about good (factual) reporting, nor did he care about his country or even the damage that his lies might cause.
In Brock's apology, he admitted to the President "I wanted to pop you right between the eyes."
Now how could Hillary possibly think that the American Spectator and other "conservative" organizations wanted to hurt her husband? Gosh, it's so far-fetched!
No wonder Mallard/Tinsley keep trying to hide the facts.
