Today Tinsley/Mallard calls for
More tests... of teachers

Mallard is still going on about American High School seniors scoring poorly when compared to other countries children in math and science tests. His dim-witted boss brushes off the results by saying that we need more tests. To which Mallard replies "We sure do... ...of teachers."

This is a common right-wing complaint, that somehow if we came up with some magical test and made all teachers take it, that all our children's test scores would improve. I think there should be stringent requirements for people who want to be teachers, just make sure you have appropriate tests.

Don't expect P.E. teachers to be able to solve Fermat's last theorem, or chemistry teachers to explain the nuances of "Catcher in the Rye" (oops, sorry, I forgot, the people who are really pushing teacher-testing don't like that book and occasionally get together to burn it along with other titles they don't like) or Chaucer. Does that mean they aren't good at what they teach? Of course not, but the duck isn't really interested in public education, so don't expect anything useful out of him.

If teacher testing was really such a panacea for public schools, then CERTAINLY it would be just as wonderful for private and church schools right? And since church-run schools don't need the NEA's permission to start testing, I'm sure that THEY already do this right? Well? What are the results Mallard?   Do you have a copy of the standardized tests that all church schools use to screen-out poor teachers? (I doubt it, as no such nationwide religious test exists). How about results showing how much better kids in church schools do against all those other countries?   You do have those results don't you Mallard?   And do they do better?   No?   Really?   Maybe teacher testing isn't the only solution after all.

Dan, why are you picking on this dim-witted duck anyway?
