Stroll along
in Oxnard, California
February 2010, a pleasant sunny day

These must be ancient palms, when judged by the trimmed fronds.
Each frond cut off cleanly to leave a bare trunk
.

Among the palms, of which I cannot name the species, is a very foreign looking specimen.
I cannot name that tree either, but is it not distinctive and out of place?

This tree distracts from the Farmer's Market on this Thursday.
Leaves cover the branches, clearly not deciduous, but most grand in the park.
The building in the background to the right catches my eye.

Carnegie - the architecture became the common public library across the United States when the Scotsman
discovered the law that made it unnecessary to pay income tax.
The building is now used as a museum displaying works by local artists.

From the barkless trunk, I assume this to be a eucalyptus tree.

Cones were evident on this tree, such a magnificent specimen I had to point much higher to see the top.

Yes this is the top of the same tree!

Is this structure a lighthouse? Why is it here?
A plaque enlightens me. It is a pumphouse that was used to water the park.
Now a bandstand for the next chautauqua.

The Viet Nam memorial stands bleak and abandoned in the park.

I confess, I did not walk to these interesting places in Oxnard. A car hurried me to and fro.
Rain was in the forecast and not a desireable atmosphere for strolling.
