No Coups is Good News

Finally the 2004 election is over. A judge ruled against Dino Rossi in a court case that challenged the election results of the Washington State's governor's race.

It was a cliffhanger, and had all the elements necessary for a political thriller. Dirty tricks, double dealing, nasty allegations, and snit fits. And that was just the Rossi supporters!

Here's the scoop from my point of view.

When Democratic candidate Ron Sims didn't win the party nomination his large and loyal supporter base refused to vote for Gregroire. In what are known locally as 'my way or the highway' Democrats left the door open for a Bush Republican to get his foot in it. Shame on them.

National Repulican groups with deep pockets and Watergate dirty tricks ran deceitful, smear campaign ads. Shame on them.

County auditors, faced with the prospect of a statewide recount that could only help Gregoire, quickly certified their elections to prevent it. Shame on them.

Felons and dead people voted. A count from King County indicates that felons and dead people preferred Rossi by a two to one margin. The ambiguity over who they voted for is what the judge based his ruling on. What is common sense doing in this issue?

Congratulations Christine Gregoire. Again.
