It Must Be Summer-- Somewhere

Twenty one days of sunshine is officially ‘Bellingham’s Personal Best,’ but it is all over now just like the school year. But the clouds came back gradually enough that I had time to finish up some of my outdoor projects.

Well, not entirely finished. The deck steps still need pressure washing as does the concrete pad below. The stabbing thorns of Jerry’s rose are in a pile that needs to be cut into small enough pieces to fit in the garbage can- I will not put those nasty canes in the compost pile. And as for the rest of the cutting, digging, mowing and planting- that’s just summertime stuff that waits for me.

Today the temperature will not get up to sixty degrees Fahrenheit. Typical for this time of year.

But I did enjoy the warm weather while it lasted. On Saturday I spent the Solstice touring local gardens. One of them gave me fantastic ideas for my own yard. Another one just awed me. No way I could do anything like it. From the black swans (real, live ones) to the tea house hidden in the grove, to the several outdoor rooms and patios, to the engineered dry creek, it was a wonderland. But who has time to maintain that? Not me. I haven’t even weeded my iris beds yet.

So now that it is cool and wet outside, I’ll be sitting by the heater watching summer days go by.
