President Obama and War

In light of President Obama's smart move to junk Bush's European missile shield, I thought it was obvious why he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize, but it appears instead that even his supporters have forgotten recent events that made that an award winning decision.

In April of 2007, John McCain sang the anthem for the Neo-cons Iran policy. “Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.” It was clear that they were moving towards that goal when Russia invaded Georgia in August of 2008. Airstrips that were necessary for an Israeli bombing attack on Iran were taken over by Russians, although American media reported it as a regional conflict and Russian aggression. The US military, weakened by Bush's war in Iraq was on notice. Russia was ready to take us on.

I only have a small understanding of spy technology, but it is clear that the US knew about Iran's nuclear facilities for years. If Goggle Earth can show my unmowed grass, then Iran's bomb making abilities have been monitored closely for years. Perhaps as early as when Bush made his “Axis of Evil” speech. The world was on a straight path to war, led by Neo-cons (many of whom notoriously dodged service in the military themselves.)

Then comes President Obama. He played the game of diplomacy and pulled support away from Iran.By the time Iran's bomb making facilities were made public, the rest of the world was aligned against them.

Has a presidential election ever been so significant as this one? Considering the proven blood lust of religious zealots, I don't think so. Could anyone other than Obama have moved us from the path of world war? I don't think so.

Does he deserve the Nobel Peace Prize?
