Susan Boyle's Dream

Watch for the TV Guide Channel to run the special “I Dreamed a Dream, The Susan Boyle Story.” I turned it on because I was curious to see if her voice really was as special as I first thought it was last April when she wowed me along with the rest of the world as a frumpy middle aged woman on stage in front of Nasty Simon. Everyone thought she was on “Britain's Got Talent” as a joke. But no joke. Her voice is even better when you don't have to listen to it over a shrieking, screaming, applauding crowd. The show featured her singing several songs and ending with 'I Dreamed a Dream.' A few bars into the song, her voice had my skin tingling.

The only other singer who affected me (and other audiences) that way was Roy Orbison. Most people don't remember that Orbison would have been a bigger star than Elvis if only he hadn't been so unpleasant to look at. Susan Boyle's voice would have been ignored also because she isn't a photo-perfect package, but fortunately, once people heard her that all changed.

If you don't know who Susan Boyle is, check out the youtube video and be amazed. But if you want to hear the song without the raving audience, check out “The Susan Boyle Story.”
