Driving Crazy

Several times a year I drive to Richland to visit Mom. I don't like driving, and six hours in the car is frustrating. For one thing, it seems like a lot of brilliant thoughts go through my head that are pounded into meaningless mush by the tedium of the freeway. If only I could remember them once I was able to write and reflect.

Friday morning, with clear mind and three hundred miles ahead of me, I decided I would capture these thoughts even if it meant pulling off the road every ten minutes. Turns out, my brilliant thoughts are short and probably amusing only to me. I also ran out of them while I stilled faced a two hundred and eighty three mile drive.

What insights did I come up with during those first seventeen miles?

Freeways are so dull that by comparison even starlings are interesting.

The bumper sticker 'Get a Grip, It's just a Lane Change.' is funny because its true.

Taking freeway exits just to write things down will turn a three hour drive into a six hour drive.

So the experiment ended with a couple of enlightening thoughts. Brilliant ideas are best developed when they have my full attention, and I can amuse myself over practically nothing.
