Rabbit's Foot

Great news! For those of us who missed a bit on our New Year's Resolutions, there is another New Year coming up. This time it's the beginning of the Year of the Rabbit. The holiday is celebrated from the 13th 'new moon' until the full moon which this year is Febuary 3rd.

Not that it was traditionally a time of joy. The 13th moon, like 13 anything is deadly bad luck, but since it is easier to sell happy stuff, it has turned into a celebration.

My Chinese friend still burns money to appease ghosts. Not real money, but fake money that has been purchased specifically to burn so the ghosts have something to spend. Does that mean there are ghost malls? (Note to people of other religions- don't get too smug because you have a lot of goofy traditions too.)

But back to my point. I made my real New Year's resolutions on January 1st, the first day of the year, but I haven't quite followed through on all of them. So here is my next chance! And isn't that what new beginnings are all about? I haven't decided if I should just re-up on the resolutions I made 16 days ago or come up with new ones.

And you might ask, what if I can't follow up on those either?

There's always the first day of spring.
